The Fund for Children and Public Education is a political action committee (PAC) fund.
We need your support! Contact your building rep or the ACTA office to contribute. You can set up an automatic pay deduct or simply write a one time check.
PAC Mythbusters!
PACers!
Myth #1:
ACTA has monies to contribute to lobbying and campaigning. There's no need to contribute more to the PAC Fund for this purpose. Fact: By law, NONE of your association dues may go to ANY political fundraisers, candidates, or lobbying efforts.
Myth #2:
PAC monies only go to political candidates that I don't necessarily support, so I shouldn't contribite to the PAC fund.
Fact: PAC monies go a wide variety of lobbying efforts, a major one being Lobby Night where teachers from around our county join with Garrett, Frederick, Washington and Carroll Counties to lobby the Maryland legislature on educational issues. See a list below of many of the uses of PAC funds.
PAC Monies go to:
Lobby efforts by teachers and other educators for issues related to education, such as Lobby Night.
Tickets to the Republican Steak Feed and the Democratic Picnic. We send our president or other ACTA members to events such as these throughout the year to get our voices heard. We don't limit ourselves to one party. We need both parties to hear what we need as educators! Our law-makers need to hear what we need to make our schools better. The more they see us, the more likely they are to listen to and support us!
Some monies do go to support political candidates who support our efforts to improve education. This is especially true for local races such as school board.
