Labor Negotiations Bill

There are several reasons why teachers are taking an interest in establishing real collective bargaining through labor negotiations legislation.
1. Maryland is the only state without an independent labor relations body to listen to and be a judge in a dispute over a negotiated agreement.
2. The bargaining parties can go to impasse and have an independent arbitrator make a judgment, but that judgment can be thrown out by the Board of Education.
3. Education Support Personnel can be dismissed from their job without the benefit of hearing the cause for their dismissal.

October 16-17, 2009

Irene Strieby, retired teacher from Allegany County, has continued to help the MSTA/MSEA Fund for Children and Public Education by working at the annual convention booth for the last fifteen years, even through her retirement. Irene is shown assisting Debbie Pappas, ACTA President, Allison Kyte ACTA Building Rep and John Reuschlein, ACTA Treasurer at the 2009 MSEA Fund booth.
